Ingredients for the perfect Halloween Snack Board
The fun thing about cheese boards (also called snack boards, or charcuterie boards) is that they really can be whatever you want them to be. We did a whole rundown on what makes a great charcuterie board before, but the short of it is, I like to include some savory, some sweet, some healthy, and some treat. See what we put on ours!
- Guacamole – Grab some from the market or whip together this quick guacamole recipe.
- Crackers – We used Triscuits and Wheat Thins on our tray, love the different textures!
- Cookies – NutterButters dipped in white chocolate or candy melts for the ghosty win here.
- Pickles – I love a mini gherkin. We used dill, but sweet is good too.
- Truffles – OREO truffles are so easy to make and we turned ours into OREO truffle bats!
- Cheese – Little mozzarella cheese balls + olives make a creepy and delicious eye catching bite.
- Fruit – Peeled mandarin oranges look just like mini pumpkins!
- Candy – Is it even Halloween if you don’t include candy corn?
- Chicken fingers – I couldn’t resist a pile of chicken fingers with red pepper “fingernails” and bloody blender marinara to dip!
How do you make a Halloween board? (Step-by-step)
⭐ First, shop for some fun ingredients. Make sure you include savories, sweets, healthies, and treats. Also a few dips or sauces.
⭐ Next, prepare any recipes that need to be made up ahead (like the dips or candy melt covered cookies).
⭐ Then, assemble everything on your favorite platter or board. We used a baking sheet for this one!
⭐ Finally, enjoy with your favorite people.
Preparation
Can you make a Halloween charcuterie board ahead of time?
It’s best if you assemble the board right before serving, but go ahead and prep the individual components a day or two ahead of time to save yourself some trouble.
How do I keep the flavors separate on my snack tray?
For wet additions, like the guac, marinara, or pickles, we suggest serving them in a smaller container or bowl on top of the board. This keeps your cookies from tasting like… well, not cookies.
Tips and tricks
🌈 Choose colorful foods to make the board fun and inviting.
🍬 If you have kids, let them pick a few of their favorite treats to include.
🥣 Don’t worry about making everything from scratch, easy can still be delicious.
🎁 Make a potluck Halloween charcuterie board by asking each family member or friend to contribute something.
Bat OREO Balls
- Pulse 36 OREO cookies in a food processor until finely crumbled. Add 8 ounces cream cheese and pulse until well blended – the mixture should look like mud.
- Form into roughly 1” sized round balls and place on a parchment lined baking sheet. Allow to chill for at least one hour.
- Pull apart and scrape off the filling from 12 OREO cookies, then gently break each half into two pieces. Each OREO will make two bats.
- Melt a bag of chocolate candy melts according to package directions, and dip the OREO balls one at a time, shaking off the excess chocolate.
- While the chocolate is still wet, gently push two of the halved OREO pieces into the chocolate covered ball, one on each side. Add candy eyes and allow to set!
NutterButter Ghosts
- Melt candy melts (or white chocolate) according to package directions.
- Dip cookies in melted chocolate, being sure to coat both sides and gently shaking off the excess.
- Place on parchment paper, and gently press two mini chocolate chips into each one to make the eyes.
- Refrigerate until set, about 10 minutes.
Get everything you need from Walmart!
Halloween may look a little different this year, but it doesn’t mean we can’t still have a blast! We grabbed everything we needed for our Halloween charcuterie board from Walmart. You can get it in store or use the Online Pickup & Delivery (my personal favorite!).
Grab these delicious (perfect for Halloween) treats on your next Walmart run: SOUR PATCH KIDS, Swedish Fish, Trident Gum (Trident Vibes have fun colors such as purple and green that are perfect for Halloween!), OREO Chocolate Candy Bar – Seasonal Halloween Pack, OREO cookise, RITZ, Chips Ahoy, NutterButter, Nilla, Honey Maid, Triscuit, Wheat Thins, & Newtons!
How many can you get on your board?
Mozzarella Eyeballs
- Spread some marinara sauce on a serving plate (or in a bowl) and set aside.
- Spread a tiny dollop of pesto on the top of a mozzarella ball, and gently press an olive onto it.
- Arrange the mozzarella eyeballs on top of the marinara (or dip the bottoms into the marinara) and serve.

More ideas to add to your board
The best part about a cheese board is that you can add whatever you like! Some more things we’ve added to our boards in the past include OREO fudge (add candy eyeballs!), no bake peanut butter balls (give them NutterButter wings!), olive and garlic tapenade (to scare away vampires!), and cream cheese dip (oozing puss dip!).
Tools we love
- Baking sheets – I love these for everything from baking, to serving, to keeping kids crafts contained.
- Ingredient bowls – These are so convenient for separating wet things on a snack board, for portioning foods, or for prepping ingredients.
